Rappelons-le,
ce classement a le mérite d'être revu chaque décennie (environ),
contrairement aux autres classements bordelais. On remarque qu'aucun vin
n'a été descendu .... Et pourtant (à mon humble avis) il y a quelques
Grands Crus Classés qui ne sont pas si fameux que ça ! No names
mentioned :-)
The new Saint Emilion classified-growth list came out at the beginning of September, with 64 Grands Crus Classés and 18 Premiers Grands Crus classés listed. Most notable is the promotion of châteaux Pavie and l'Angélus to Premier Grand Cru Classé "A", thus joining Cheval Blanc and Ausone, which have been the only two "A"s since the first version of the classification in 1959. Congrats to Messieurs Perse and de Boüard. Several wines have been promoted to Grand Cru Classé : Canon-la-Gaffelière, La Mondotte, Larcis-Ducasse, Valandraud. Big pat on the back to them too. One or two other names have disappeared, Magdelaine notably, because of amalgamation with other properties, buy-outs and so on...
For reminder's sake, the
Saint-Emilion classification has the merit of being reviewed once a
decade (very approximately), contrary to the other Bordeaux
classifications. Interesting to note that not a single wine has been
demoted.... and yet (in my humble opinion) there's more than one Grand
Cru Classé which could pull its proverbial socks up a bit! No names
mentioned :-)
